Number 8 - I, Robot
Not only is this movie based on AI, but it also casts Will Smith! A pleasant mix that gives a nice result.
Synopsis: It’s 2035 and robots are an integral part of our daily lives. Humans and humanoids live side by side and everyone seems to have total confidence in this new system. All except a detective who, investigating a murder he suspects one of the humanoid robots of having committed. He then discovers a terrible threat hovering over the human race.
Number 7 - A.I. Intelligence Artificielle
A modern-day Pinocchio, this Spielberg film brings together childish myth, ecological cataclysm and humanoid robots for a dramatic story.
Synopsis: An ecological catastrophe has caused the ice to melt, submerging all the continents and leaving the earthlings in famine. Robots have gradually taken a central place in this new world, where they assist humans in their daily lives. But Professor Hobby wants to go further in the capabilities of humanoids. He then launches into the creation of a sensitive humanoid child, capable of feeling emotions, becoming a possibility for couples in difficulty of procreating. This is how David, an 11 year old robot, enters Henry and Monica Swinton’s home. Soon abandoned by his adoptive mother, David begins a perilous journey in search of his identity and his secret part of humanity.
Number 6 - Ex-Machina
In this sci-fi with a biblical feel, be prepared for intrigue, wonder, disgust and fear.
Synopsis: At 26, Caleb is one of the most successful developers at BlueBook, the world’s largest Internet search engine. As such, he wins a week’s stay at the big boss’s mountain home. But when Caleb arrives at the remote mansion, he discovers that he will have to participate in a disturbing experiment: interacting with the representative of a new artificial intelligence that appears in the guise of a beautiful female robot named Ava. In an oppressive and intriguing closed-door setting, he will have to evaluate the machine’s ability to have a conscience.
Number 5 - Terminator
« Sarah Connor? ». A well known Thriller with Schwarzenegger in the main role of the cyborg killer of humans.
Synopsis: It is the year 2029 and the surface of the Earth has been leveled by a nuclear war. A handful of survivors are fighting against the Terminators, machines that are trying to take over. But the resilient John Connor fervently fights for the gradual return of humanity. To win the war, the machines send to Los Angeles in 1984 a cyborg, a robot with a human appearance, to kill Sarah Connor, the mother of the resistance fighter. The latter sends one of its members, Reese, after the cyborg.
Number 4 - Her
The incredible Joackim Phoenix has struck again, but this time he’s having a love affair with his voice assistant!
Synopsis: It’s the year 2025 in Los Angeles, and Theodore works for a website as a public writer, writing handwritten letters of all kinds – family, love, etc. He and his wife Catherine have been separated for almost a year, but he can’t bring himself to sign the papers. In a state of depression that persists, he installs a new operating system OS1, to which he gives a female voice. This is the beginning of a romantic 2.0 drama in a scenario that anticipates the future of voice assistants.
Number 3 - Wall-E
Pixar’s animated film, Wall-E, takes us to a distant future where we can’t help but fall in love with the little cleaning robot.
Synopsis: Wall-E, a little robot, is the last being on Earth. 700 years ago, humanity deserted our planet and left him in charge of cleaning the Earth. But Wall-E has developed a small technical flaw: a strong personality! Curious and indiscreet, he is above all very lonely. His life will be turned upside down with the arrival of Eve, a little robot. Wall-E will do everything in his power to seduce her.
Number 2 - Blade Runner
The science fiction film where humanoids dehumanize Man.
Synopsis: In the last years of the 20th century, thousands of men and women set out to conquer space, fleeing megalopolises that have become unhealthy. On the colonies, a new race of slaves is born: the replicants, androids that nothing can distinguish from human beings. A rebellion breaks out between humans and humanoids. Los Angeles, 2019. After having massacred a crew and taken control of a ship, the Nexus 6 replicants, the most advanced model, are now declared « outlaws ». However, four of them manage to escape and break into Los Angeles. A special unit agent, a blade-runner, is in charge of eliminating them.
Number1 – 2001 : A Space Odyssey
The oldest of the films on this list (1968) and ahead of technological developments, it is described as the first major science fiction film that most closely resembles the possibilities of humanity’s future.
Synopsis: In 2001, a spaceship is in lunar orbit. On board, Dr. Heywood Floyd secretly investigates the discovery of a black monolith that emits strange signals towards Jupiter. Eighteen months later, astronauts David Bowman and Frank Poole are on their way to Jupiter aboard the Discovery. The two men go serenely to their daily tasks under the control of HAL 9000, an exceptional computer endowed with intelligence and speech. However, HAL, undoubtedly more human than his masters, begins to show signs of worry: what is the point of this mission and what might be discovered on Jupiter ?
